Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Leona Landers
Adele Rose, Small Grants Fund Coordinator
BANGO was honoured to welcome Deputy High Commissioner and First Secretary of the Australian High Commission, Ms. Leona Landers accompanied by Small Grants Coordinator, Adele Rose. Their main purpose was to get a first hand look at the projects which the Australians are funding and those which have applied for funding.
In between their busy two-day schedule, they met with BANGO on the matter of the Australian investment in Barbados and especially the Caribbean. A small team of persons including Suzanne Phillips, Doug Skeete, Dexter Marshall and Lorna Barrow met with our visitors. The team identified the establishment of National Focal Points as the main Caribbean need for networking and for taking advantage of development funding such as the Australian small grants fund.
The meeting lasted for about an hour and a half with BANGO pledging to submit a concept note for establishing focal points. We learned of the existence of Aus-AID which can accommodate aspects of the proposal which the small grants can't, as well as an Australian Sports Fund which can assist sports organisations.
We look forward to working with the programmes of the Australian Embassy in T&T and mostly to establishing those Focal Points across the Caribbean.
